Poppy Seed Bread

Bread:

  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 3 tbsp poppy seeds
  • 1 ½ tsp butter extract
  • 1 ½ tsp almond extract
  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/3 cups vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 ½ cups whole milk
  • 2 ¼ cups white sugar

Glaze:

  • ¼ cup Orange Juice
  • ½ tsp butter extract
  • ½ tsp almond extract
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups confectioners’ (powdered) sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cover insides of two loaf pans with Baking Cooking Spray (basically like a Pam but has flour In it)

Bread Instructions:

Mix together all dry ingredients VERY WELL in a LARGE bowl. IN a separate bowl, mix together wet ingredients.  Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix together well with a wire whisk. Pour into loaf pans.  Place pans in oven and bake for 1 hour – 1 hour 20 mins.  You want loaves to be set well. Tops will brown. The very middle where the dough cracks will be a little soft.

Glaze Instructions:

While bread is baking, mix together wet ingredients in a medium size bowl. Gradually add confectioner’s sugar, whisking, until glaze consistency is reached.

Once bread has cooled for 10 mins, poke holes in it with a toothpick or fork, drizzle glaze over bread or baste using a pastry brush. I find using a pastry brush works best.
